Redefine Everything

There is a saying that goes, “If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s a duck”. Now let’s take the characteristics that make up a duck and throw them out the window. Let’s redefine duck to include anything that lays an egg. So now the new definition of the duck just included nearly everything from the animal kingdom, but mammals. That would be absurd. There are clear definitions and guidelines that make up nearly everything. If we were to redefine something as simple as a duck we would create total chaos.

Obama Redefines The Word ‘Spouse’ To Include GaysTotal chaos shall ensue as the latest attacks on the institution of marriage have been issued by the Obama Administration. On Wednesday February 25, 2015, the administration redefined the word “spouse” to include gay couples.   The U.S. Department of Labor issued a new 52-page regulation, in which the term “spouse” was updated to include gay couples.

Now we have the word “spouse”, which is richly rooted in history since the 13th century, transformed and updated with a more modern meaning.  After all, when people can’t play by the rules they just make them up.  This new meaning is contrary to its true meaning to begin with.  The meaning of the word spouse is: “a married person, either one of a married pair, but especially a married woman in relation to her husband”.  Since its inception spouse has always meant this. So after 800 years of existence, the administration feels it is necessary to redefine the word.

This will do nothing but add confusion.  Once the lines, that have been clearly drawn by GOD, get blurred then confusion and chaos set in.  GOD is a GOD of order (1 Corinthians 14:33). He has created all things for his purposes and his good pleasure (Revelation 4:11).  That includes the institution of marriage and the roles of the husband and wife.

Redefining the meaning of things is not a new practice. In fact over the last century we have seen the roles of husbands and wives redefined. Now we have the divorce rate that has grown every decade. We have also redefined sin. In most cases we do not call sin, sin anymore; we call it disease.

Drunkenness, or gluttony to alcohol, has been known as a sin for thousands of years. However, in an effort to take GOD out of the equation, for you sin against GOD, our country decided to call alcoholism an illness in 1956. The American Medical Association further decided in 1991 that alcoholism is a disease. So now we have the sin of drunkenness redefined as the disease of alcoholism.

Ephesians 5:18

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,

In addition we have seen the sin of gluttony, over-eating, become redefined. In 2013, the American Medical Association redefined obesity as a disease. So now, whichever way you choose to sin, whether through drunkenness or overeating, is now a disease. So again you take GOD out and make it even easier to choose that behavior.

We have also seen the redefinition of marriage go on before our eyes over the last decade. The first state to allow same sex marriage was Massachusetts in 2003.  Since then 36 more states have locked arms with them to display a complete shift in the view of marriage in the United States.

universe in his handsAfter thousands of years of marriage being between one man and one woman, as defined by the creator of all things, GOD, we now have His institution of marriage being grossly distorted. Since GOD created marriage, shouldn’t we refer to His design for it? What does GOD say about marriage?

Genesis 2:24

For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.

Men and women were created for each other.   The “one flesh” concept is not just sexual union, but how men and women complement each other by design.  Marriage has always been and always will be between one man and one woman in the eyes of GOD.

Just because culture decides it wants to redefine things doesn’t make it true. Are we going to let our culture kill our society or stand up and defend our Christian values?

When a society decides to make things legal, it does not make it right. For example, abortion is still murder even though it is legal. As our society redefines things we will continue to see the degeneration of morality. After all isn’t it easier to rename something and gain comfort and acceptance, rather than dealing with something like sin.

We cannot alter what GOD created.  We are the creation not the creator.  GOD has laid out for us His design.  If we listen to our culture we will rebel against His design and make ourselves god.  We can be killed by the culture or obey His design and give Him glory.  We can let the chaos of the culture overrun our Christian values by redefining everything, or we can call let a duck be a duck, and marriage be between one man and one woman.
